Who Were the 32 Million People Registered with Ashley Madison?
Along with the caveat noted above, it should also be noted that several sources purporting to publish information about Ashley Madison users have proven to be unreliable. This is yet another reason not to rush to judgment if you see your spouse’s name on a list. However, according to some of the more-reliable sources, this is what we’ve found:
Thousands of Government and Military Email Addresses Were Used to Register Ashley Madison Accounts
According to CNN, along with email addresses from companies like Apple, Intel, and Microsoft, nearly 20,000 Ashley Madison accounts were registered using .gov and .mil email addresses. This includes accounts linked to various agencies within the United States and Canadian governments, as well as members of the U.S. Army, Navy, Marines, and Air Force. CNN reports that it has independently verified these numbers.
Ashley Madison Has Registered Users Worldwide
The CNN article linked above includes an excerpt from a map which claims to show the locations of Ashley Madison users. The map shows portions of Europe, Asia, and the Middle East, with users in at least 11 different countries.
Maps from other sources (including one labeled, “A world of infidelity, according to Ashley Madison”) show users on six of the world’s seven continents – excluding only Antarctica.
The U.S. Appears to Have the Most Ashley Madison Users
While it is difficult to tell for certain from the maps we’ve reviewed, it looks as though the U.S. easily has the most Ashley Madison users. Within our borders, the most users are on the West Coast and in the eastern half of the country. Some sites have even identified the states and cities with the most users. According to these sites, Florida falls outside of the top 20, and no Florida cities cracked the top 10.
